The Lit. Bar opened on National Indie Bookstore Day in 2019 as the only bookshop in the Bronx. Today, it serves the community it calls home with events, a wine bar and a mission statement that’s as lit as the spot itself. Founder Noëlle Santos has created a space where you can find a new favorite read with a glass of something in hand, and we’re here for it. They are a black and Latina women founded wine bar – book store – one of many wine bars that are women or minority owned.
If you’re in NYC or planning a trip soon, make your way to the Bronx and pay The Lit. Bar a visit. The bookstore/wine bar/community center officially opened its doors in April 2019 and was founded by Afro-Latina Noëlle Santos, who saw a need for a bookstore in her borough after the only existing shop, a Barnes & Noble, closed in 2016. “We’re a bookstore that reflects the community that we operate in” “We have different interests, and just because we’re Black and mostly Latinx, that does not mean we don’t want windows and doors to other cultures.”
The Lit. Bar opened its doors on April 27, 2019 (National Indie Bookstore Day) and is currently the only bookstore serving the 1.5 million people of the Boogie Down Bronx. Our venue encourages curious readers and welcomes literary and community gatherings—while our wine bar connects the great pastimes of social sipping and introverted reading. What better way to loosen our tongues and talk about the books we love? We offer a carefully curated selection of general interest books, gift items, and programming which emphasize local interest and diversity for all ages.
