We recognize that much of the material we’ve been taught and that we have continued to teach thus far has been colonized in a way that does not honor the culture and people of India from which this work derives. SKY TING is on a journey of decolonization, which will be lifelong work. We look to foster a community of teachers willing to do this work as we challenge, push up against, and move away from the mutations that have devalued and appropriated Indian culture in a harmful way. The material we share from both Ancient India and China holds great power and value to the world today, and we will strive to make this material accessible and available to our students. We encourage all students of SKY TING to learn from teachers and leaders who have historically been left out of boutique wellness, who teach yoga as a tool for liberation and who honor the roots of this material.
