We are often asked, “What does Dope In Real Life mean?”…. Our answer is simply this….. It’s in you, not on you. Dope In Real Life has a different meaning for many, but for black woman Owner/CEO it represents the struggle of self confidence she experienced within herself for years. It represents the self doubt she displayed by staying in situations that did not reciprocate love and encouragement. It represents overcoming barriers all while holding her head high. It represents having an open, kind, and giving nature without publicizing it for social media. It represents who she really is on the inside, regardless of perception.

I started my online business in November 2018, with 50 t-shirts for men and women that included a simple hashtag #dopeinreallife. I found myself explaining to the elder generation what #dopeinreallife meant. The word “dope” had been known for being associated in a negative manner(drugs or ignorance). I worked really hard to create what I call the blueprint to being #dopeinreallife. A logo that included the words “IAM” in the middle with positive affirmations surrounding it.

I worked to also create a secondary logo in an effort to represent the struggles with weight loss, it included a pill bottle with the word “gym” on the label and had water bottles, Exercise machines, cellphones, social media, and scales falling from it.

My online store has been in flight since 2018, I have grown from creating t-shirts and hoodies to workout clothes, waist trainers, and a variety of urban wear. I partner with other minority as well as women owned companies and support all businesses similar to mine. My goal is to empower everyone that the brand comes in contact with and create something for ALL. Or find and read more on a free directory of minority owned businesses.

In Real Life Apparel launched in 2018 just outside of Oakland, CA where the Owner/CEO was born and raised. The owner was raised in a black community, faced many barriers as a women and minority, but was successful in her endeavor. The first brand to launch under In Real Life Apparel is #DopeInRealLife.

Our brand is a universal brand for all, but especially pro-black and women! We pride ourselves on being comfortable while empowering self and others.

I am a single parent of two, an 8-year-old and a 20-year-old in college. I have been through many challenges in life dealing with self-confidence, depression, and not feeling loved by family, friends, and relationships. In 2017 I decided to make a change for the better, I decided to walk away from a 9 year mentally abusive relationship, lost 100 lbs, and created a brand that would help empower other people that had experienced the same things. My brand is called #DopeInRealLife, meaning it’s IN you not ON you. it’s what’s inside that counts.. not what you see on social media, not the perception of my lifestyle. it’s my giving behavior, my kindness, the beauty of my spirit. I am powerful, I am loved, I am blessed, I am strong, I AM #DopeInRealLife
