From day one, My Illegal Body has used entertainment as a means for change. Click here to learn more about some of our past and future events.
My Illegal Body is an event fundraising group with the goal of validating the existence of every body, and promoting economic, reproductive, immigration, and incarceration justice. We are building a better future for Atlanta by fundraising for the causes that cater to our most at-risk communities. We are dedicated especially to serving the community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a crisis that has heightened health and economic injustice.
After being founded to oppose Governor Kemp’s fetal heartbeat bill HB481, the organizers behind My Illegal Body realized that several people in Georgia had “illegal bodies” and unjustly policed existences. As a result, the community organization grew to envelop prisoners, immigrants, and sex-workers as well, and it has since served Georgia by fighting for economic, reproductive, incarceration, and immigration justice.
We began to think about the systemic injustices that led people to become “illegal”, and decided that we would take the terminology back. Every illegal body is valid, and deserves to be healthy and safe.
My Illegal Body is a space for these people. We fight through and for our four pillars: economic, reproductive, incarceration, and immigration justice. We are preparing for the future. We are supporting our community. We are changing what it means to be “illegal.”
