With few nearby grocery shopping options for downtown Racine residents and workers, Market on Main was opened to fill a need. We are a combination of a deli and a grocery store. We offer fresh sandwiches, soups, and other meals but also fruit and other staples like milk, eggs, and butter. There is nowhere else in our downtown neighborhood to get these types of items. Many of our residents want easy access to basic grocery items, without having to travel to the mega stores like was the trend over the last years. We opened at the end of last year and are now ready to purchase a reach-in refrigerator and an air curtain merchandiser which will allow us to sell even more refrigerated and premade items. We also need an outdoor marquee sign. This Kiva loan will help us purchase these items and continue to grow.
Open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Market on Main offers a one-stop-shopping and fresh deli sandwiches, soups, paninis, deli meat and cheese by the pound.
Essential everyday household items; over-the-counter medications; fresh fruits and vegetables; refrigerated goods including milk, cheese, butter, eggs, hot dogs and cold cuts; candy, chips and snack pastries; frozen foods; bottled water and soft drinks; and essential grocery items including bread and a variety of canned, jarred and boxed foods, including cereal and dry pasta.
I’ve always had a dream of working for myself. As a kid, I wanted to own my own store. When I saw a “For Rent” sign in my neighborhood, which has few options for groceries, I had a vision, this was an opportunity to live out my dream and take the entrepreneurial plunge.
The purpose of my life is to help people. I feel my best when I am able to do this. My store, Market on Main, is a great asset to my neighbors without cars or the means to travel to a large store for a staple or a quick snack or meal. My store fills a need in my neighborhood and helps my neighbors.
