Lilac Assisted Living is a home for elderly adults who need additional assistance with the activities of daily living. We provide high-quality care to all of our residents by ensuring that our caregivers have the education and skills to meet the individualized needs of each resident.
We operate in a residential setting where we can provide personal care and attention to each of our residents. Ever since I started working as a CNA in a nursing home/assisted living setting, I have dreamed of opening a home for the elderly. But I never knew when it would be achievable because of the capital needed for the business. I didn’t give up and continued looking into gathering more information about starting an assisted living facility. In 2015, I came to know about personal care homes, and I felt that was a great place to start for me. The next goal was finding an investor or partner, and finally, in 2018 I was able to see my dream come true. I hope to grow and be able to provide exceptional services to more elderly adults in the future.
Dharmisha’s story
As an immigrant, one of the first opportunities I got was to work as a CNA. I never imagined working in nursing, but working with the elderly and caring for them brought me a sense of fulfillment. While working as a CNA I continued my education and obtained my LVN and RN all while getting married and starting a family. I have always been called an enthusiastic overachiever. Within a year of graduating with my Nursing degree, I enrolled in an RN to MSN program.
Since childhood, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I was able to explore nursing and the endless opportunities there are for a nurse. One of my first jobs was working at the Jewish home, and since then, I always dreamed of having a home of my own for the elderly.
I started looking into being a nurse entrepreneur, and that is when I learned about personal care homes/residential assisted living facilities. Years passed, and I was blessed with many great opportunities and my fair share of challenges to attain them. My husband was very supportive of my goals and stood by my side when I decided to leave the hospital setting to reach my goals.
With the blessing of an investor in 2018, I was able to accomplish my long-time goal of starting a home for the elderly. It was not an easy path, there were many rough patches, but today when I look back, I could only feel proud and would not have done it any different. And this journey continues with my next goal of starting a 16-bed facility. I believe the reason behind my success to date is the blessings from those elderly I had the privilege to care for.
