A few years ago, when my husband and I lived in Japan, I was first introduced to the concept of kintsugi. In this practice, a ceramic is repaired by fusing the broken pieces back together with gold, making the item more beautiful for its cracks, and not in spite of them. I created Kintsugi Candle Co. to speak to any woman who has ever been broken in any sense of the word (and to be honest, isn’t that all of us?). We all have a story.
Welcome! Kintsugi Candle Co. was inspired by stories of courage, empowerment, and transformation, just like yours. Each month, we will highlight a story of resilience by sharing an interview with someone that personifies our mission of honoring the beauty in the broken. If you would like to share your story, we would love to help you to own your truth!
Our founder, Allison Jones, received a harrowing diagnosis in April 2018: a brain tumor in her right frontal lobe. Three days following that unexpected news, she lay vulnerable on an operating table to have the mass removed. Aromatherapy played a significant role in her recovery, and the use of essential oils as part of Allison’s self-care routine made a profound impact on how she was feeling. The instant transformation of outlook brought on by fragrance was something she grew compelled to share, and Kintsugi Candle Co. was born.
We’re stocked y’all! All 4 Kintsugi Candle Co. scents are officially available in full size AND mini!
“My interpretation of kintsugi is that items are made more beautiful because of their cracks, not in spite of them, and I feel that this is something that can be applied to people as well,” explains Allison.
We are all unique and more beautiful because of each and every curve ball life has thrown our way. We are all kintsugi. It is my sincerest hope that you will light this candle, inhale, exhale, share your story, and own your truth.
