My business is known for creating beautiful outfits for rockstars, but you don’t have to be a famous artist to wear Indica Boutique, because every garment is made to bring out your inner rockstar. I personally do the design and pattern making of each piece, and for now also the sewing, but the next stage of my brand will be to use the services of local garment manufacturers in New York City.
Clothing, accessories and makeup inspired by rock music and musicians.
I design, make the patterns, cut, and sew all the clothes that I offer in my on-line store. I’m passionate about my job, for providing excellently made garments, careful tailoring, fabrics with my own prints.
The fabrics I use are fabric scraps. These fabrics are recovered from high-end designers in New York City, sold as a sustainable alternative to destruction, and discarded in landfills. I also use recycled supplies, such as vintage buttons or recovered trims. At the same time, it’s a great way to find unique materials to dress up my unique clientele. Fashion is on its way to becoming more sustainable and ethical, and with my brand, I’ll try to be as friendly to the planet and people as I can.
Roxy’s story
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the southernmost country on the American continent. I learned to sew as a child, with my maternal grandmother’s pedal sewing machine.
When I finished school I began to study Industrial Pattern Making and Garment Construction, but before graduating I had already opened a small boutique in the city center of Buenos Aires.
I ran my boutique there for 17 years!
I specialized in designing and making stage clothes, first for underground musicians, then for better-known artists.
Always being in Buenos Aires, I got to make clothes for Robert Plant, the legendary lead singer of Led Zeppelin, and the most important event in my career, I have made jackets to order for the very same Beatle Ringo Starr, and for his entire band.
In 2019, I came on a trip to NY, to see some shows of one of the musicians who are members of Ringo Starr’s band, Todd Rundgren. And at one of those shows, I met someone… who is currently my husband. I decided to bet on the love of my, at that time, 46 years old. I left behind my life and my business fully established in my country, and I dared to start from scratch here in the USA.
At the same time, the global pandemic began.
But I registered my company here in NY, and I built and opened an online store in April 2020. I started sewing my designs made to order and slowly built up a clientele here.
I currently live with my husband in Harlem, and one of the rooms in our apartment is my atelier, and headquarters for Indica Boutique LLC.
Likewise, I also started taking workshops for small business owners, and I am currently attending a business accelerator for women entrepreneurs.
