Introducing, The Furlough Cheesecake! This succulent dessert is made with a whole lot of love and goodness!
When life gives you a government shutdown…make cheesecake? That’s what sisters Jaqi Wright and Nikki Howard did in December 2018, when the government shutdown put them out of work and without a paycheck. “We weren’t thinking about a business,” Wright told O. “It was my mother who inspired us when she said, ‘It’s so good you can sell it.'” And the Black women started their small businesses and started selling cheesecakes as fast as they could make them!

Severely impacted by the recent government shutdown (2018-19) and desperate to figure out how to make ends meet without their paychecks, two sisters from two different federal agencies, Nikki Thompson Howard (left) and Jaqi Thompson Wright (right), were forced to step out on Faith to support their families and prevent the bottom from falling out.

Thus began The Furlough Cheesecake, which the sisters launched on New Year’s Day in 2019, and has since become their full-time business. The sweets, which are available in seven flavors—original, sweet potato, key lime, banana pudding, strawberry swirl, chocolate swirl, and cookies & creme—can be ordered online and shipped nationwide.
